Les P. Beard received a Ph.D. (1993) in geophysics from the University of Utah, an M.S. in geophysics from Texas A&M, and a B.S. in physics and mathematics from East Texas State University. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in environmental geophysics at Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 1993–1996. He joined the Geological Survey of Norway in 1996 and worked there until 2001, primarily involved with airborne geophysical surveys. In 2001, he returned to Oak Ridge National Lab to research airborne geophysical applications to unexploded ordnance. In 2005 he joined Battelle, where he continues working with airborne geophysical technologies. He is a member of SEG, EEGS, ASEG, and AGU.
David T. Bell received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (1982), an M.S. in Electrical Engineering (1989), and a Master of Business Administration (1998) from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. After more than 23 years in various positions of increasing responsibility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he is currently manager of the newly-formed Oak Ridge office of Battelle Memorial Institute. His technology interests are primarily concerned with airborne methods for investigating the near surface, with particular emphasis in unexploded ordnance. His business interests include strategic management and new business development. He is an author of more than 20 papers and peer-reviewed journal articles related to airborne systems development and deployment. He is a member of the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Mel Best has extensive experience in the application of geophysical methods to exploration, environmental, ground-water and engineering problems. He has a Ph.D. in physics from MIT and is currently a consulting geophysicist in Victoria, British Columbia. His interests include petroleum exploration and development, geohazard mapping, environmental and groundwater studies, and airborne EM and magnetic methods. He …
